Two Decades of Ink.
A Lifetime of Stories.
Chennai, 2006. Tattoo studios were still whispered about more than walked into. Parents warned against them. Strangers assumed the worst. Into that silence walked Naveen Kumar with an idea that felt almost rebellious at the time: what if a tattoo studio in India could feel less like a back-alley risk and more like an atelier? Clean. Certified. Artistic. Built for trust, not just for ink.
Twenty years later, that idea has a name people in this city say with pride: Irezumi.
Ink Was Never the Point
Here’s the thing nobody tells you before your first tattoo — the needle is the easy part. What’s hard is trusting someone with a story you’ve never said out loud. A mother you lost. A relapse you survived. A version of yourself you’re finally ready to become.
For two decades, that’s the part Irezumi has actually been in the business of. Not applying pigment to skin — holding space for the moment someone decides their body should say something true. Every sleeve, every tiny wrist symbol, every cover-up that erased an old chapter has carried someone’s real life inside it. We’ve just been lucky enough to be the hands that helped tell it.
That belief hasn’t moved an inch since 2006. Everything else around it has evolved — but not that.
Standards, Not Slogans
“World-class hygiene” is easy to print on a signboard. It’s a different thing to build a studio around it for twenty straight years — internationally certified artists, premium equipment, sterilization protocols that don’t bend for a busy Saturday, and a team that treats “continuous learning” as a job requirement, not a buzzword.
That’s why whether you’re walking in nervous for your very first tattoo, booking a detailed full sleeve, getting a piercing, starting a tattoo removal journey, or exploring paramedical procedures — the care doesn’t change. Same precision. Same respect for what your skin is about to carry.
Building the Next Generation
As the industry grew up, Chennai’s appetite for serious tattoo artistry grew with it — and Irezumi didn’t just ride that wave, we built classrooms for it. The Irezumi Tattoo Academy was born out of a simple conviction: talent shouldn’t have to guess its way into this craft. Today, artists who once sat in our training sessions are out there building reputations of their own across the industry. Watching that happen has been one of the quiet, enormous joys of these twenty years.
You Built This With Us
None of this — not the studio, not the academy, not the twenty-year milestone — happens without the people who sat in our chair and decided to trust us with something permanent. Every referral to a friend. Every five-star review typed out at midnight after a session. Every client who came back for tattoo number four, five, six. You didn’t just become customers. You became a community that believes tattoos are craftsmanship, not a compromise.
Two Decades In, We’re Just Getting Warmed Up
We’re not closing a chapter here — we’re marking the page and turning it. The next twenty years look like sharper standards for Indian tattooing, bolder innovation in technique and aftercare, more artists trained through the Academy, and more stories walked in the door and walked out as art that lasts a lifetime.
To everyone who has trusted Irezumi with their story over the last twenty years — thank you. This anniversary isn’t ours alone. It’s yours too.
Here’s to twenty years of ink, trust, and transformation — and to every story still waiting to be told.
